Since suggestions are pouring in faster than I can keep up, I am opening this list up to everyone.
Rules:
1. Car must be Awesome. So no Smart cars. I will delete Smart cars.
2. Must be normally attainable for less than $10k in running / driving condition. It does not have to be mint, but it cant be "you can find tons of these without engines for <$10k".
3. If the car is iffy I may ask for proof.
(You should all be able to edit it now)

I was starting alphabetically then the requests came in like a flood and I stopped and did this instead, so feel free to add it if you haven't yet done so.

Im not sure who put 240/260/280 Z, but I dont think a 240 or 260 under 10 k would be in the greatest condition.. 280 yeah, but not so sure on 240 and 260

Nice! I'd be curious to know what one would go for up here in Canada. Some time ago I was looking at first gen MR2s, and they were still going for at least $3k+.

Mazda RX-8. Turbocharged rotary power is starting to fall under $10k..
![]() 03/20/2014 at 00:47 |

Isn't the RX7 turbocharged and the RX8 not?? But I agree with the RX8 being on the list.

How about the B5 S4 (1997-2002, with the TT 2.7 V6)?

Fox body, or SN95. I grew up watching F&F, playing NSF UNderground, and therefor hating Mustangs, but for a cheap fun car they are great.

I paid significantly more for my SW20, but that was 15 years ago. Maybe I should buy another one...
![]() 03/20/2014 at 14:22 |

Yours probably has a lot lower mileage, but it can't hurt to have more SW20s in your life. There's a lot of forum members with multiple at this point, since they've hit the bottom of their depreciation curve.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of selling it in 2002... almost got what I paid for it.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 14:34 |

Everyone who I've talked to who has sold one regrets it. They can be a bit of a money pit depending on how they're maintained, but once they're in working order they are incredibly reliable.

Mine was great until one of the crank retainer shims fell into the oil pan and the car would stall every time I put in the clutch because it would push the flywheel into the block.
Mine had a HKS turbo, intercooler, intake and exhaust. It was lots of fun. My only complaint was the short wheelbase made it quick to spin when I pushed it, so it wasn't the best track car.

What year was yours? Pre-suspension revision? I would have hated having an issue like that, it would have given me nightmares to troubleshoot it.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 16:11 |
|
'92, so the "old" suspension. It was great up until the limit, and had a pretty high limit, but after that it's snap oversteer.
Luckily I was still living close to my parents at the time, and my dad was able to figure out what was going on (since it made zero sense to me how it was even possible).
![]() 03/20/2014 at 16:20 |

Alright. Mine is a '93, I get snap back if I liftoff in the wet, but if I power down it's reliable through corners. I haven't had extended track time with it yet unfortunately, but I'll get to know it better at the limit eventually.

This is way too much fun. I have a thing for lists.

B6 S4.
Incredible GT/Performance DD. Quite a looker, good old fashioned Stuttgart muscle.
(never mind the gas mileage/maintenance)
